

Francis joined the railways and became an engine driver. He drove every type of engine on the run between Wellington and Auckland and also from Cross Creek to Wellington. He was the engine driver of the 1st Limited Express to Wellington, in 1920 and the Royal Train in 1921.
After Ruby died, he remarried many years later and moved to Howick in Auckland
