Francis played football in college. After college he worked for the American Chain Company. After moving to Waterbury, Connecticut he worked for Barlow's Sheet Metal and played semi-professional football with the Mulligan Blues Football Team. This was before NFL and local teams. This is also when and how the sport progressed. The Mulligan Blues were one of the strongest teams in New England.
