About Francis X. Malocsay

Frank came to the US in 1865. His point of entry was Castle Garden, but their records are not digitized and, therefore, not readily available. He earned a law degree from Columbia College in NYC in 1871.

His first law partner was William Dudley Foulke, a friend from Columbia. Mr. Foulke wrote a book entitled “A Hoosier Autobiography”, and this book has some stories about their early days as lawyers in NYC. Mr. Foulke moved to Indiana in 1876 and served in the Indiana State Senate from 1882 – 1886, was appointed to a commission by President Theodore Roosevelt, and supported many causes, including Sufferage.

Frank’s law offices were located 140 Nassau Street, 7 Beekman Street, and 149 Broadway in NYC. Each of these addresses is in downtown Manhattan near the financial district. Although the census forms from 1880 indicate his profession as a real estate attorney, it is most likely that he practiced general law.

Frank’s family lived in Brooklyn, NY during his early years as a lawyer, and later near Red Bank, NJ, and in Jersey City, NJ.
