Frank Lewandowski, 96, Waubay, died Feb. 18, 2011, in a care center at Sisseton.
Burial was in the spring in the Waubay Catholic Cemetery.
Frank Sylvester Lewandowski was born May 10, 1914, to Leon and Martha (Rilander) Lewandowski on the family farm near Grenville. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. The family moved to a farm northeast of Waubay, where he attended country school through the eighth grade. After his education, he continued to live and work on the family farm.
Nov 18, 1947, he married Bertha Rinas in Waubay. They purchased the family farm and began their life raising their family and continued to farm.
He had a passion for farming, especially raising cattle and sheep. He enjoyed cattle and auction sales and his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife and an infant son, Joe.
Survivors include his children, LeRoy (Karen) Lewandowski of Waubay, Elaine (Joe Millage) Thennis of Philip, DiAnn (Max) Fleischhacker of Sisseton, JoAnn (Kenneth) Snaza of Grenville, Merle (Mary) Lewandowski of Vienna, David (Donna) Lewandowski of Waubay, Duane (Blanche) Lewandowski of Peever and Bernice (Dale) Dewerff of Watertown; two sisters, Clara Olmsted of Huron and Frances (Dean) Hill of Madison; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
