6. Frank Limback, timber boss, with his gang of men started at work. putting timber in the stope at the 34th level, north of No. 1 shaft, Hecla Branch of the Calumet & Hecla Mine. They had placed a heaving pole in position and hoisted a piece of flat timber into the stope and while putting the timber in place a piece of hanging rock fell, striking Limback on the head and face. He was at once taken to the mine hospital, and after his wounds were dressed was taken to his home where he died December 6.
An inquest was held before Coroner Macdonald
Dr. A. B. Simonson testified as follows: "I was called to see Limback on the afternoon of December 3rd, and found that he had received injuries and was suffering severe pain. I examined his bowels, face and hands and found only slight injuries. There were symptoms of peritonitis. I am of the opinion that his death was due to internal injuries."
The jury returned the following verdict: "We find that deceased came to his death from internal injuries received while at work in the 34th level, north of No. 2 shaft, Hecla Mine, on the 3rd day of December, 1895."
