About Frank Elisha Sprague

FRANK ELISHA SPRAGUE was born in Killingly, Conn., on November 5, 1850, but was, while in college, and has since been, a resident of Providence, R. I. He was the son of Samuel Stearns and Esther Pierce (Hutchings) and prepared for college at a private school in Providence. He writes that the panic struck him broadside just as he was leaving harbor, and that he has had headwinds and counter currents ever since. He went to Chicago in the autumn of 1873 to learn the grain business, and while there attended his first and only Alumni reunion. He remained in Chicago six months and spent another half year roaming about the West, in a vain search for a promising business opening. In the summer of 1874 he returned to Providence and engaged in cotton-manufacturing. He says he worked like a dog for four years, superintending the mill, etc., but sold out his interest a few months ago and has now joined the family concern of Samuel S. Sprague & Co., consisting of Samuel S., Charles H. and Henry S. Sprague, dealers in flour and grain in Providence. Frank concludes he has now found smooth waters and fair sailing. He has well defined matrimonial intentions.

Address: Care of S. S. Sprague & Co., Providence, R. I.
