About Frank Joseph Wittman

Frank Joseph Wittman, a World War II veteran, community supporter, and devoted family man, died on February 21, 2011; and at the young age of 18, Frank Wittman, along with countless other young men of his generation, answered his nation's call to duty and joined the United States Army, serving in Belgium, France, and Germany from 1944 to 1946; and Frank Wittman arrived in Belgium shortly after the Battle of the Bulge as part of a unit tasked with securing the fighting area, dealing with German resistance, and processing prisoners of war; and a patriotic young man, Frank Wittman also worked alongside his fellow soldiers as a member of the occupying force in Germany; and after his military service, Frank Wittman returned home to build a successful career; marry his sweetheart, Genia; and raise his family; and a respected professional, Frank Wittman provided valuable insight and guidance as the president of the Certified Property and Casualty Underwriters Association; and Frank Wittman remembered his fellow veterans and served the community through his membership in the American Legion Post No. 175; and Frank Wittman was honored decades after World War II at the American Legion state headquarters in Richmond with a United States Army Freedom Team Salute Commendation for his distinguished service to his country; and a man of great faith, Frank Wittman was a longtime member of St. Paul ' s Catholic Church, where he enjoyed fellowship with other parishioners, worship, and outreach to the community; and Frank Wittman lived a full and rewarding life marked by exemplary service to his country, community, church, and family; and a devoted family man, Frank Wittman will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Genia Wittman; children, United States Congressman Rob Wittman and Anne Wittman, and their families; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it. That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of an outstanding citizen of the Commonwealth, Frank Joseph Wittman; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Frank Joseph Wittman as an expression of the Senate of Virginia ' s respect for his memory
