Freddie Prinze, Sr. was an American stand-up comedian and actor. Prinze was the star of the NBC-TV sitcom Chico and the Man from 1974 until he died by suicide in 1977, at the age of 22. Prinze was the father of actor Freddie Prinze, Jr.

Born Frederick Karl Pruetzel, he was the son of a German immigrant father (surname originally Prützel) and a Puerto Rican mother.
