About Frederic William Wile

Frederic received the degree of LLD from Notre Dame University, without having graduated, for his brilliant journalistic career. A brief bio from Notre Dame's collection of the Papers of Frederick William Wile : Author, newspaper columnist and editorial writer, who was educated at the University of Notre Dame, 1886-1890, served as a reporter for the Chicago Daily News, 1900-1906, and the London Daily Mail, 1906-1918 (covering the Boer War), and as a political analyst on the radio, 1923-1938, for station WRC in Washington, DC, and later for NBC and CBS.

Frederic's autobiography (1939) is titled, News Is Where You Find It. Other book titles include Our German Cousins (1909), Men Around the Kaiser (1913), The Assault (1916), Explaining the Britishers (1918), Emile Berliner, Maker of the Microphone (1926), and A Century of Industrial Progress (1928), with a forward by Herbert Hoover.

He accompanied President Woodrow Wilson through France, Belgium, England, and Italy at the outset of the peace conference between the powers. He also kept death watch outside Osborne House on the Isle of Wight where Queen Victoria (no. 10744 in this tree) lay dying.
