We often went to Fred and Nell's place in New Westminster for Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. Greg did a great imitation of Fred's deliberate style of speechifying at the table. Fred was a union manager of the IWA (Woodworkers) for many years. He was a staunch Roman Catholic and said he found the Church to be "a great consolation."
Fred got a kick out of Mark's middle name. Fred and Nell might even have been Mark's sponsors for baptism. Fred liked to say, slowly and deliberately, "Marcus Frederickus," when he saw Mark.
