About Frederick A Keetch

Obituary

Fredrick ("Fred") A. Keetch, of Pleasant Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 16, 2007. He was born on July 1, 1920, in Lindon, Utah, to Laura Fage and William Keetch. Fred was the fourth of six children. He attended school in Pleasant Grove and Lehi. After graduating from Lehi High School in 1938, he entered college in Logan. Here he attended school in the morning and worked as a carpenter at the Logan Airport in the afternoon.

In 1943, on his birthday, Fred married the love of his life, Naomi Steele. Their marriage was solemnized in 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had three sons, Fred, Keith and Scott. Except for a short period they have lived their entire 64 years of married life in Pleasant Grove, where they bought and still own their home.

As a boy and a young man Fred worked for many relatives and friends on their farms. He also worked as a cook, a hoddie, and managed two hardware stores. For 24 years he was the Assistant Manager of Christensen's Department Store in Pleasant Grove. He often talked about how much he enjoyed working with his co-workers and the customers who frequented the store. He finished his working years as a school bus driver for the Alpine School District.

Fred was also very active in his church and community. For 18 years he was the MIA Superintendent and assisted with many road shows, Gold and Green Balls, hay rides and many other activities. He loved working with the other leaders and the youth. He was a charter member of the Pleasant Grove Junior Chamber of Commerce and participated as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. He was also the chairman of many committees. He was an instructor in the very first hunter safety class taught in Pleasant Grove to the youth. Fred was also very active as a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he served as president, vice president and secretary. However, his most-loved service was with the Pleasant Grove Fire Department. He served in various positions from 1956 to 2000. From 1968 to 1980 he was the Fire Chief. He made and continues to have many dear, close friends in the Fire Department.

Fred loved camping, hunting and fishing with his family and friends and also with the Happy Hobo group, their Good Sam's camping friends. One of the family's fondest photograph and memory is of Fred and his three sons at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor, where all four were Eagle Scouts.

Fred is survived by his wife Naomi, of Pleasant Grove; and his three sons: Fred (ReNae) Keetch of Alpine; Keith (Shelley) Keetch of Lago, Idaho; Scott (Sonya) Keetch, of American Fork; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth (Carol) Smith, of Lehi.

The family wishes to mention a special thank you to the staff and friends at Home Helpers who have provided much loving care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos Stake Center, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Timpanogos Stake Center. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with honors from the Pleasant Grove City Fire Department.
