Obituary of Frederick Kilmer

Frederick T. Kilmer, Sr., 82, of Nicholson, PA, died Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2015 at home. His wife is the former Vernice Escott. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 5th.

Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence Kilmer, Sr. and Consetta Corvino Kilmer.

Fred had been a self employed logger his entire life. He started his career in the logging industry at the age of 14 and at age 34 he sustained a work related injury that caused the amputation of his lower leg. He loved his job so much that he was back to work within one month after his accident.

He loved all of the gifts of nature and spending time outdoors. To Fred, family was of the utmost importance. He so looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. Fred also enjoyed traveling and spending vacations in Florida.

He is survived by three children: Debbie and Kevin Benedict of Nicholson, PA, Richard Kilmer of Tunkhannock, PA and Shelley and Don Boyle of Taylor, PA; two sisters: Joann Telford of Hop Bottom, PA and Shirley Uhran of Florida; two brothers: Douglas Kilmer of Union Dale, PA and Larry Kilmer of Mayfield, PA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son: Fred, Jr., four brothers: Clarence, Jr., Robert, Ronald, Raymond Kilmer.

The funeral was held Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Pastor Thomas Cusack of the Tunkhannock Seventh-Day Adventist Church, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.

Pallbearers: Brandon Benedict, Ken Jacobs, Larry Kilmer, Robert Kilmer, Jr., Jason Kilmer and Calvin Kilmer.
