In the 1940 US Federal Census, Fred Robitschek was living with Karl and Margaret Kussy as step-son.

On March 23, 1943, Fred enlisted in the US military despite not yet being a citizen:

"Enlistment for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law."

He must have been quite small at 117 pounds at time of enlistment.
