Frederick John Satterthwaite

Frederick John Satterthwaite was born in 1878 in Dalton in Furness. Cumbria to Miles Satterthwaite, an Iron Miner, and his wife Martha.

His childhood was spent in Dalton in Furness, but by the time of the 1901 census, he had moved to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, where he was working as a Draper's assistant. He married Ada Elizabeth Sheffield in the same town in 1906, and in 1911 was living there with his wife and two children, working as a buyer.

It seems likely to the author, given the military records available, that Frederick enlisted in the military in 1916 and fought in the first world war. He is listed at the time as having been born in Lancashire and living in Wellingborough. He either enlisted in the Staffordshire or Queen's (Royal West Surrey) regiment - it is not clear which of these it is from the record.
