Fred Taft October 30, 1996 Fred J. Taft of Hill Street, Duryea, died Wednesday at the Moses Taylor Hospital, ScrantonBorn Nov. 14, 1905 in Ransom, he was the son of the late William J. and Sarah R. Stout Taft. He was educated in Ransom Schools and resided in Duryea since 1947. Before retiring, he was employed as a car inspector by the Lehigh Valley Railroad Co. He was a member of the Ransom United Methodist Church; the Transportation Communication International Union Lodge 6876, Bethlehem; the Junior Order of United American Mechanics; the Lehigh Valley Railroad Veterans Association. He was preceded in death by his wives, the former Martha Jermyn Weir, and second wife, the former Alma May Winters, in 1990. Surviving are sons, Thomas and Fred Jr., both of New Jersey; Albert, New York; daughters, Phyllis Pesotine, Duryea; Mary Lou Thomas, New Hampshire; a sister, Thelma Beaudry, New Jersey; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Ransom United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martin Bovee, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Ransom Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today from the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, and from 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Ransom United Methodist Church, Newton Ransom Blvd., 18653.
