Published: February 20, 2008
KRAMER--Frieda. Congregation Beth Sholom of Lawrence, NY, records with sorrow the passing of our member. May her memory be for a blessing.
KRAMER--Frieda Emilia. Born in 1928 in the Netherlands, recently of Cedarhurst, Long Island. Frieda passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children on February 18, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is the daughter of the late Chief Rabbi of the Sephardic community of the Netherlands, HACHACHAM Rabbi Salomon Rodrigues-Pereira and his wife Henriette Emilia and devoted wife of the late Dr. Melvin M. Kramer and loving partner of Hans Werthauer. Frieda is the sister of deceased siblings, Martinus Rodrigues-Pereira, Miriam Van den Bergh, and Caro Zivi. She is survived by her brother Arnold RodriguesPereira and his wife Trudi, and sister-in-law Theresia Rodrigues-Pereira. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses: Carol Ruchelsman and her husband, Manny; Jonathan Kramer, M.D. and his wife Maria; Nancy Karp and her husband, Lloyd; and Salomon Kramer and his wife, Marci. The grandchildren she dearly loved will miss her deeply: David, Michal, and Jason Ruchelsman; Raphaela and Jesse Kramer; Daniel, Michael and Zachary Karp; and Jacqueline and Jesse Kramer. Frieda escaped Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in 1942 and came to settle in New York years later. Deeply proud of her Sephardic roots, she dedicated her life to caring for the world through volunteer work in hospitals and nursing homes, through the care of friends and community members, and through loving-kindness toward animals of every kind. She delighted in sharing laughter and food with friends and was known for her welcoming and abundant shabbos table. Frieda taught all of those she touched to celebrate life through her irrepressible joie de' vivre. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20th at Beth Shalom Temple, Lawrence, New York, beginning at 9:30 am. Shiva services will be held at the home of her daughter Nancy Karp, 47 North Wood Lane, Woodmere, New York. Donations in her name can be made to Chabad of Naples, Florida, 1195 Creech Road, Naples, Florida, 34103 where she received extraordinary care.
