The services of my ancestor, Gabriel Ely, during the War of the Revolution were as follows: Corporal and Private Sergeant, Conn. Continental Line. [stamped Jan. 23, 1950]
"Gabriel Ely enlisted at the beginning of the contest, served in many battles and survived to receive a pension. He died at Tunkhannock, Wyoming Co., Pa." D.A.R. Lineage Book, Nat. No. 12448
Corporal, 1777; Sergeant, Capt. Holmes 1st Co., 4th Batt., Wadsworth Brigade, 1776; Sergeant, Aug. 24, to Oct. 30, 1777, with Capt. Amos Jones. Pensioned.

Gabriel and his wife came to Brooklyn Twp. from Lyme, Connecticut in 1814. His son Silas came in 1811. Mr. Ely was postmaster in 1816.
