He was stationed many years at Benicia Arsenal, Cal., and afterwards at Governor's Island, New York. He married first , May 2, 1848, Elizabeth M. Butler, (d. 1862), daughter of Captain John Butler, and his wife, Gabriella Manigault Morris, and had issue:
