About Gary Evans Hardee

The Horry Herald, Conway, SC August 7,1924

Gary E. Hardee was born September 17, 1893, and departed this life July 25, 1924, at the Florence Infirmary where he had been taken for a third operation, for an intestinal disease with which he had been continually troubled since the early spring of 1923.

He bore all his suffering remarkably well and even in his last hours could smile at loved ones standing by his bedside and say that he was feeling fine. The poet has well said that Jesus could make a dying bed feel soft as downy pillows are, and we feel that such was the case with Gary, for in his early manhood he accepted Christ and united with the Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where he lived a devoted member until death. He served as clerk and also as treasurer of his church for number of years.

He was also a loyal member of Hickory Grove Camp No. 701, W.O.W. and held responsible offices in his camp.

In 1923 he was elected secretary of the Bethlehem Sunday School Institute, which position he held until God saw best to call him to his eternal rest.

He leaves a wife and four small children, a father and mother, three brothers and five sisters, besides a wide circle of friends to mourn their loss, but we feel that our loss was his eternal gain.

He was funeralized on Saturday following at 2 o'clock, by his pastor, Rev. T. H. Patterson, at his home near Hickory Grove, where a large circle of sorrowing loved ones had gathered for the occasion after which his remains were taken to the Graham Cemetery for interment, where the occasion was futher solemnized by some of his fellow members of the Woodmen of the World.

May the good Lord bless all the grief sticken family and friends and help them to bear up in these darkest hours, and help us to live such lives before Him that we may all meet in a better world. This is my prayer.

A Friend, L.B.C.
