Gary John Nightingale

Gary Nightingale (1979 - 2007)

Brief overview:

Gary (27), was shot dead in the driveway of his home in Vuurvliegie Street, Steiltes, Nelspruit, on 23rd August 2007.

Gary and his wife Nicky were returning from a family member's birthday party, and they drove in separate cars. Nicky drove in first. An eyewitness said, "one of the robbers shot Nightingale twice - once in the face and once in the back, and then calmly turned around and jumped on the bakkie. He stared straight at me and drove off."

A Hi-Tech Security paramedic who arrived tried in vain to save Nightingale's life.

Only Nicky's handbag with her cellphone and purse inside had also been stolen.

The couple were renting the house, but from Mozambique where Gary was in the Unitrans sugar-transporting industry and regularly worked in Tanzania.

The bakkie was seen shortly afterwards on a farm road on the N4 to Pretoria and Hi-Tech had followed up the report.

Neither the bakkie nor suspects have been traced.
