From Bodley Family Papers held at the Filson Historical Society:
Thomas Bodley was born to William Bodley and Isabella Parker Bodley on July 4, 1772 near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Lexington where he spent most of his life. Temple Bodley's memoir states that he "was a soldier in the War of 1812, an officer (quarter-master general) under, and an intimate friend of, Gen. W. Henry Harrison, a close friend and of Henry Clay, and for many years was the Circuit Clerk of Fayette County-an office which, in the old times, was not only profitable but far more reputable that nowadays. He was a man of considerable influence in Kentucky and related by blood and connected by marriage with many influential families…. Gen. Thomas Bodley, like many men of that day, owned a great number of large tracts of valuable wild lands in the state. He lived generously from all accounts, lost money in some of his large land ventures, had a large family and left a small estate."
Thomas Bodley married Katherine Harris Shiell on August 19, 1785 and died in Lexington of cholera on June 11, 1833.
