"General Roderick Macneil, 21st of Barra was the son of Roderick Macneil and Jean Cameron. He married Isabella Brownlow, daughter of Lt.-Col. Charles Brownlow, on 20 June 1818. He died on 22 October 1863, when the chiefship devolved upon his kinsman in Canada: without male issue...
...He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.). He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) Inverness-shire. He was Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.). He was General 78th Hldrs, commander centre div Madras Army, lost the estate of Barra through failure of the kelp industry and improvidence of his father in 1838."
