Thomas Pollok was one of nine children born to the Rev. Thomas Pollok of Grittleton (who descended from the Polloks of Craigton and Faside), and Susanna Palmer (daughter of Mary Dawson and Charlton Palmer Esq, Attorney of London - going back to the Palmers of Wanlip Hall.
THOMAS POLLOK b 1772, joined Cadet's Company in Madras 1790, saw the taking of Seringapatam, served under Wellington at Assaye, accompanied Gillespie to the relief of Vellore, and was a ring-leader of the White Mutiny (thanks to D and A Augier for their listing of Madras Mutiny 1809 which confirmed his rank), was dismissed, reinstated, awarded CB and became Major-General. Married relative of Lord Nelson, had one daughter, who married and lived in Madeira, and son WILLIAM POLLOK b 1811.
