About George Franklin Allen
George served as a citizen soldlier by volunteering 6, March 1862 to serve as a private in the Confederate Army. He spent almost the entire war helping to guard the network of forts that protected the port of Wilmington. Fort Fisher fell in 1865 and George was among those captured and transported to Elmira prison camp in New York. He was paroled for exchange and returned to Richmond, VA on 2 March 1865.
