. He was a talented artist and produced many paintings before the war.

George Raymone Alvord, Sr., enlisted as a private in the 1st Mich. Cavalry, but ws soon promoted to the posistion of lieutenant. Her served during the entire Civil War, and left the service with a captain's commission. Previous to the war he showed that he had remarkable natural talent as an artist, and produced numerous paintings. He settled in Hillsdale and engaged in mercantile pursuits.

He was a Freemason and Kingly Templar, having received the degree of Knighthood in Columbia Commandery, No. 2, Washington, D.C.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Roberts , MAY 2 1864 in Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI,

b. JUL 23 1843 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan  (daughter of William Roberts and Mary Ann Crippen  ), d. SEP 29 1906 in Trenton, Wayne County, Michigan.
