George A. Jaeger Sr.

George A. Jaeger Sr., 90, formerly of Hankinson, ND, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD.

George Anton Jaeger was born March 25, 1925 to Peter and Anna (Scheller) Jaeger at their home in Hankinson, North Dakota. In May of 1943, George joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. George was honorably discharged in early 1948. 

George was united in marriage with Aquileia "Squeak" Motis on November 11, 1949 in Hankinson, ND. They ran the Hankinson Dry Cleaners for nearly three years, before they purchased the bowling alley and cafe in town, which they ran until 1961. George worked for the U.S. Defense Department in Igloo, SD and for the Corp of Engineers as a lock and dam operator in Guttenburg, IA and Minneapolis, MN. George and Squeak celebrated 64 years together last November.

In 1986, George retired with a beautiful lake home on Middle Cormorant Lake. George and Squeak resided there until 1994, before moving to Fargo, ND. In 2009, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to family.

George was a member of the V.F.W. West Fargo, the Lions Club of Cormorant, and the Elks and Eagles of Detroit Lakes. He also belonged to St. Mary's parish of The Lakes and was a member of the American Legion East for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Aquileia "Squeak" Jaeger of Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, James "Jim" Jaeger, Houston, TX and Stepheon (Lori) Jaeger, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Stephanie "Sis" Jaeger, Houston, TX; and four grandchildren, Danielle Johnson (J.R. Johnson), and Tyler Jaeger, both of Sioux Falls, SD, Hunter and Madison Jaeger, Houston, TX; a brother, Don Jaeger of Minneapolis, MN; and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, George "Georgie" Jaeger Jr.; a grandson, Todd Jaeger; seven siblings, Jake Jaeger, John "Coxy" Jaeger, Huntsey Jaeger, Angie Olson, Rose McKeon, Elaine Foley, Antoinette "Toni" Collins.
