George Francis Blackbeard - Born 5 Dec 1815, christened 4 Feb 1816, Upper Street Independent, Islington, Middlesex, England.

He married Susan Harvey and then Susannah Elizabeth Warren. He went out to SA (between 21 November 1853 when his son William died in England) and 20 Oct 1854 when Amelia Eliza was born in SA.

He was the founder of G.F Blackbeard Boot & Shoe Warehouse. No 27 Bathurst Street, Grahamstown. Circa: 1862. The same family traded on this site for more than a century and a quarter.

Francis Blackbeard was born in Middlesex, near London, on the 21 December 1816. Aged 2, Mr Blackbeard and family emigrated to South Africa in 1820. They were members of the Rowles party from London which sailed aboard the Nautilus from Deptford to Port Elizabeth. From there they were transported by ox wagon to their allotted land on the Eastern Frontier of the Cape Colony.
