About George K. Boyer

Son of Valentine & Anna Maria Boyer

The Reading Eagle newspaper carried his obituary July 23, 1877, page 4. As follows:

Sudden Death of George K. Moyer.

George K. Moyer, well known throughout the city and county was taken suddenly ill at his residence Fifth and Bingaman Streets, Saturday night and died about 5 o'clock yesterday morning.

Deceased was born in Douglassville. He was the proprietor of the Band (Blind?) Tavern several miles below Pottstown and from there moved to Spring Township near the Harrisburg Bridge some 40 years ago, where he carried on the trade of a butcher about 5 years, and then removed to Fifth and Bingaman Streets this city and resided there ever since. He continued butchering until some 10 years ago when his health began to fail and he opened a grocery and provision store.
Mr. Boyer was a man of quiet disposition and an industrious and excellent citizen. He was a Democrat and worked at the polls for the success of the party, but never ran for office. During Governor Packer's administration he was appointed Sealer of Weights and Measures for Berks County. He was a man of powerful muscle and while he was not a man of a quarrelsome disposition but abhorred fighting, he occasionally applied his strength in restoring order at the election polls and in this he was a peacemaker and prevented many persons of slight muscle from being hurt.
Deceased leaves a widow and 7 adult children: Annie, Sarah, James, Valeria, George, John and Allen.
