About George Branch, Jr.

George Branch Jr., with his father, George Branch, Sr., signed the Loyalist peitition to the Commissioners of England in 1677 (17C 160-161).

Inasumuch as his father died intestate, George, as his oldest son, inherited all of his land. In a series of deeds he sold land to his brothers, all except John who evidently had been given his land, which he sold in 1709.

From Southside Virginia Families, Volume 2 By John Bennett Boddie.  Page 48:

George Branch (George 1) evidently moved from Surry VA to Chowan County, North Carolina in 1694, for in that year he proved his rights for the importation of George Branch, Mary Branch, William Branch, Elizabeth Branch, Phyllis Branch and George Branch. He assigned his rights that day to Nicholas Crisp.

It seems that the above mentioned persons were his children, and that his wife Susanna was deceased.

The will of Thomas Corker, 1677:

Captain Corker's will as proved September 4, 1677 in Surry County Virginia. In is he gave his wife the estate on the north side of the James Rive - she to pay to certain indebtednesses owed to Richard Holden, Richard Lindsey, and Nicholas Merriwether. He gave as estate on the south side of the James River to his daughter, Susannah, wife of George Branch of Surry County, also a watch that as her mother's. He divided 1800 acres between his three daughters: Susannah Branch, Judith, wife of William Clay, and Lucy, wife of Thomas Jordan. He gave 50 acres to John Vincent. He also gave to Robert Spencer 50 acres.
