BROCKWAY TRUCK CO
George Albert Brockway, 2nd child of William Northrup Brockway and Edith Hine, was b. at Homer, NY., on Mar. 26,1863 ; married at Cortland, NY, on June 15,1887, with LEFFINGWELL DUNBAR, dau. of Mr and Mrs. H.P.Dunbar. They were residing at Homer, in March 1890.
Children were: William N. (1890-1944) and George Russell (1893-1937)
George Brockway took over the Brockway Carriage Company in Homer from his father in 1889 and eventually moved the firm to Cortland, NY and turned the business from a Carriage Works into the Brockway Motor Truck Co. in 1912. The company built custom heavy-duty trucks from 1912-1977 and, although part of Mack Trucks Inc. in 1956, it remained a division of Mack until its closing. The hood ornament used by Brockway was a husky dog with pulling harness, thus giving Cortland the nickname of "Husky Town USA."
The 1900 US census shows that the Brockways, with sons William N. and George Russel lived in Homer at that time. Census data regarding his birth year is noted but BROCKWAYS record of his birth on Mar. 26,1863 is also recorded by cemetery records.
