About George Marquis Bryson
Dad said that his little brother was born with some form of disability and that "his head was very large". He died while Grandpa was out to sea commercial fishing for the season and that Grandma locked herself in the closet and wouldn't come out and that Dad at age 4 didn't at the time understand what was happening.
The family story is that the minister told Grandma that because her child died before he was baptized, he would not go to heaven. Because of this, Grandma refused to go to church (although I remember her attending Christmas Eve services at Holy Trinity at least once in the early 1990's - she didn't do any praying).
Nobody ever talked about this child. I don't recall exactly how or when I learned of him. While working on another family tree in the late 1990's, I talked with Grandma extensively to learn details. At this time I asked her questions about this little George and she got pretty teary, but she did share with me some of the facts.
Little George is buried in the baby section of Evergreen Cemetery in an unmarked grave. The marker above Grandma and Grandpa's ashes in Evergreen also includes George Marquis' name and dates. Dad and Bonnie arranged for this. Mindy
