George and Isabelle had a son, George W Cadwallader, Jr, who died at birth 1938. They had 3 children, Bob, Tom, and Latitia.
George had dark sparkling eyes and a smile that put everyone at ease. He was a fun relative to have. He owned a travel agency and provided overseas tours. On one of his advance trips to Cusco, Peru for a coming tour, he died. The death certificate listed the cause as heart attack. His body was returned to the USA and I believe it was as ashes without a lot of explanation.
The family always thought there may be other circumstances that contributed to his death. None of his belongings were returned to Isabelle. George always carried a fair amount of cash and had a silver and gold money clip he always took with him. These items were not returned.
He once took our family to the Queen Mary restaurant in the bay and told us to order anything on the menu. We rarely went to "sit down" restaurants and this was like winning the lottery when I was about 8 or 9. My eyes lit up and I looked over at my dad to get a reality check. Sure enough, he tucked his chin in slightly and gave me a stern look. I knew that meant order 2 items and they'd better be reasonable. But, George was like that, I thought he was one of the richest men I knew. He shared whatever he had with others and made us feel grand when we visited them. Uncle George was a generous hard working man. He owned his own insurance and travel business and worked seven days a week. His travels took him all over. We visited his house at holidays and he always treated us like royalty. Once he took us for lunch at the Queen Mary on the docks in Long Beach. What a treat! He told us we could order anything on the menu and I had to look at dad to get an indication this was true. I got the nod and order a PBJ sandwich and a chocolate malt. It was like Christmas had come early.
Isabelle was equally lovely and kind. She took us to Broadway clothing store and helped us shop for school clothes and picked out a red corduroy jumper dress, I wore until the lowered waist line reached my real waist. I loved that dress.
During one of his business travels to Peru in 1973, he had a heart attack and died there. Although his body was returned to Long Beach, his belongings were not returned. It was a tragic loss to us all.
