About George Chinn

Biography

What we know of George Chin comes from various probate records. After his death, his debts were paid by John Codner, who raised Chin's children and possibly married his widow.[1][2]

Children

George Chinn and Elizabeth had two known children:

  1. John Chinn, cooper, married Rebecca Merritt, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Sandin Merritt. In his will dated 17 Jul 1685 and proved 9 Dec 1686 Nicolas Merrett of Marblehead named his daughter Rebecca (Merritt) Chinn.[3] Administration of John Chinn's estate was granted to Rebecca Chinn.[4] More information about John's children can be found in the Essex Historical Collection, Vol 47 by Sidney Perley p 157.[5]
  2. Mary Chinn married William Brown of Marblehead. William Brown's will confirmed his wife as Mary Chinn when he specifically referenced his "brother-in-law John Chinn."[6]
