About George Washington Easley
George was born on December 25, 1915, in Halifax County, Virginia, to James Henry Easley and Mary Ellen Bailey Easley, the second of their six children. At an early age, he joined the St. Luke C.M.E. Church; and, he attended the Halifax County public schools.
George was joined in marriage to the former Mable Medley. While they did not have children of their own, he showered his nieces and nephews with fatherly love. After marrying, George became a member of William Temple C.M.E. Church, where he served faithfully.
George worked, for a number of years, in the transport of senior citizens, and was remembered fondly by the many visitors to the various sites that he served.
George departed this life on July 19, 1986, in South Boston, VA. He was pre-deceased by his wife Mable, and a sister, Elizabeth Easley Coleman. Left to cherish his memory were his brothers, Jacob and Elmore Easley, both of New York; sisters, Dorothy Duncan (Edgar J.) of Richmond, VA, and M. Virginia Cooper (Joseph G. II ) of Teaneck, NJ; an aunt, Louise Lovelace of New York; six nephews, including the devoted Edgar Duncan, Jr; five nieces; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
