George lived in Tillamook County for 35 years, he was the founder of Nehalem, Oregon. He operated a "floating store" moving from town to town. He previously lived in Washington County and had operated the McLeod Mill.

George died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland, Oregon of a stomach ailment. He had gone there in November, 1900 for treatment.

George married Margaret Ann Scott 4 April 1854 in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Edward entered the Government service with the Weather Bureau in 1886. He retired after working for the United States government for a period of 40 years.
