Funeral services for George M. Garrett, 80, of Dover, formerly of Highland Springs, Va., were held Friday, March 11, in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Millsboro. Mr. Garrett died Monday, March 7, 2005, in his home.

Mr. Garrett was born Aug. 20, 1924, in James County, Va., son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Maude Sweeney Garrett.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and later became a sheet-metal worker for Truxmore in Richmond, Va.

Mr. Garrett was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Staff Sgt. Daniel George and Tracey Garrett, with whom he lived; two sisters, Eva Chambliss and Odell Meek, both of Highland Springs, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Faries Funeral Home, Smyrna.
