About George J Haider

George J. Haider, 84, Mandan, passed away May 11, 2016, at Sanford Living Center on Sunset, Mandan. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with Monsignor Chad Gion as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

George was born Feb. 28, 1932, to Joseph and Anna (Leingang) Haider in St. Anthony. He was raised and educated in the rural St. Anthony area. George married the love of his life, Maggie Martin, on Nov. 12, 1951, in Mandan. George worked construction before he started as a truck driver in 1956 and continued until his retirement in 1988. George and Maggie lived in Mandan their whole lives. When Maggie became ill, George stayed at home and was her primary caregiver until her death in 1995.

George enjoyed gardening, his lawn and flower gardens were always well groomed. He enjoyed going to coffee with his friends at the Ridge and liked making an occasional casino trip. Auctions and garage sales were especially fun for George he would go to a lot of sales and collected many treasures throughout is life.

Above all his family was central in his life and he loved holidays and other special occasions when they were all together. George had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the staff at Sanford Living Center where he was living. He always had a stash of candy available to bribe the staff if needed. George was a kind and decent man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie who passed away on Jan. 8, 1995; his parents; his sister, Rose Haider; his brothers, Joseph and John; and brother-in-law, Victor Schmidt.

George’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Sanford Living Center on Sunset for the special care given to their Dad.
