Genealogy is an amazing voyage. Not only into the discovery of one's own direct ancestry and close family: it's also a learning process through which we oblige ourselves to better understand the past. Because of the nature of genealogy, we not only learn more about historical facts but also about the people behind them. It's simply what you would never learn in school or college.

Looking at ancestry, what strikes me most is the tremendous courage of our ancestors... living through incredible hardships, moving to distant places looking for better fortunes, dealing with other cultures and religions at a time where knowledge was acquired on the spot - without the help of Internet or cell phones.

My own voyage has revealed to me that my immediate family was far bigger than I thought, and I have met close relatives I didn't even know they existed. Beyond that, my work on Geni is an ongoing quest to learn more about the past and about how and why we all tie together. If everyone would do that, perhaps we all would see that we're one big family. The basis for a kinder world? Perhaps at least the premice for better understanding and higher tolerance.

I keep track of my historical and genealogical research through this index page. Perhaps my index may inspire you to get in touch to work together on new projects - or it may give you ideas for your own endeavours.

If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. Despite a professional background in the international IT business, I have an MD in Political Science. I'm relatively fluent in Dutch, French, English and German, and can work with written Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Latin. Plus, as a volunteer Geni curator, I have some extra user privileges that can solve some of your problems in the family tree, and generally help to protect and improve the quality of data on Geni.
