DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.
The death is announced of Mrs. James, widow of the late Me George James, which occurred on Friday. The deceased lady, who was 78 years of age, arrived in 'South Australia by the ship Royal Admiral on January 15, 1S2S- and was therefore a colonist of 57 vears
and 10 months. She was of a most charitable disposition, and had a wide circle of friends. She leaves three sons and two daughters— Messrs. Alfred .Tames, C. P. James, and J. H. James, Mrs. John Townsend (widow of the late Mr. John Townsend), and Mrs. T. W. Lyons (wife of Mr. T. W. Lyons) — 25 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral took pls.ee at the West-terrace Cemetery on Sunday afternoon. The chief mourners were Messrs. Alfred, C. P., and J. H. James (sons), T. W. Lyons (son-in-law), George James, A. James, W. Sagar, Arnold James, J. Townsend, G. James (grandsons), ilr. Andrew Johnston, and A. A. Scarfe (grandson-in-laws). Amongst those present were Dr. Hayward. Messrs. Percival, J. Hall, E. Hall, Dorsett, J. Lunn, C. Lyons, C. C. Scarfe, H. Scarfe, W. Terrell, Birrell, J. Hugall, J. Goodall. A. Warncken, W. Gunn, T. Williams. Maddern, F. Parker, Colburne, Conigrave, J. Cartrell, G. Smith, Mellor, F. Warren, Co^, J. Weblty, P. Whitington, and others. The service at the house and grave were conducted by the .Rev. C. Bright. A large and beautiful collection of wreaths was laid on the coffin. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. P. Gannoni, of Norwood.
