George (John) Old

It originally was a puzzle why George Old, the first born of John & Beatrice Old used the other names of John or Jack Old. I have acquired the birth, death and marriage certs to prove who they all are and have come to the conclusion that George Old was always known as John Old, and that no other child named ‘John Old’ was born to John Old and Beatrice Robertson. Looking at the birth entry for George Old it looks like the clerk in the registry office had the name ‘George’ on the brain that day as he also named the his father John Old, as George Old, which we know is an error. George Old and John Old are the same person. His first marriage is as John Old is to Mary Lowrie on the 21st July 1893, at the Residence of Mr. Robert McCracken, Mountain Rd, Stratford, but he must have got his birth certificate when going to marry the widow, Clara Thompson (nee Reisma) on the 19th April, 1928 at the residence of C L Thomson, Uruti, NZ and found he was registered as ‘George Old’ so he married her as George Old. His children always knew him by the name of John, (aka ‘Jack’), so when he died his children buried him as John Old, wife of Clara Old in the Hamilton Park Cemetery. I have no found a death certificate issued for a George Old anywhere in NZ, nor have I found a birth entry for a John Old, the s/o John Old and Beatrice Robertson. The fact that he was originally registered as George Old is mentioned in his Will ...... (my name as registered with the Registrar of Births being "George Old" but I having always been known as and called by the name of ‘John Old’which I have adopted)......
