IA 38th Inf Co E. Residence: Frankville Township, seven miles southeast of Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Was living there in 1853. Born 5 Jan 1836 at Lier, Drammen, Norway, a son of Magnus Linnevold. Civil War: Age 26. Enlisted 15 Aug 1862 as Corporal. Mustered 4 Nov 1862. Transferred to Iowa 34th & 38th Infantry Consolidated Co K on 1 Jan 1865. Promoted to Sergeant. Mustered out 15 Aug 1865, Houston, Texas. Post war: After the war, took name "Linnevold, Jorgen". Died 1925. Buried in Washington Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery, near Decorah, Iowa. Stone reads “George M. Linnevold, Jan 5, 1836 – Mar 1, 1925, IA 38th Inf Co E, 1861-1865”.
