Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock for George E. KIDD, 81-year old retired Bloomfield business man, who died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock when he suffered a heart attack on the south side of the court house square. The officiating minister was the Rev. L. D. ROBERTSON, and burial was made in the Grandview Cemetery. Mr. KIDD, a lifelong resident of the Bloomfield community, was born August 23, 1869 in Richland Township, the son of the late John and Rachel (FLATER) KIDD. He operated a furniture store here at one time with the late Simon LEHMAN, and served as auditor of Greene County from 1915 to 1919. He also had been a candidate for the office of clerk of Greene Circuit Court and had been active in the affairs of the Democratic Party for many years. He also had served on the school board and cemetery board here. Mr. KIDD had been in the undertaking business in Bloomfield from 1902 until 1934, operating the KIDD Funeral Home. In 1934, he joined with Lester JENKINS in the KIDD & JENKINS Funeral Home, and remained a partner with Mr. JENKINS until his retirement in 1942, when his interest was purchased by Mr. JENKINS. He was also active in farming, but had disposed of his farming interests considerably in recent years because of failing health. Mr. KIDD was a member of the First Methodist Church here and also held membership in the Bloomfield I. O. O. F. Lodge. Surviving him, are his wife, Eva B. (GORDON) KIDD; the following children of his first marriage, Max KIDD, of Brazil, and Mrs. Fannie CAHILL, of Washington D.C.; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine (WORKMAN) KIDD; two sons by his first marriage, John and Ernest KIDD, and a son by his second marriage, Emery Lee KIDD, who passed away at the age of one year.
