About George Knopf
Son of Henry Knopf. Various sources list his father's wife's name as Mary, Magdalena and Helen nee Metzger.
Records show that he and his wife, Emeline had a daughter, Sarah, born in Illinois around 1861. She married Edmund Daniel Fitsch in 1884 No other children are listed in the 1870 or 1880 censuses.
After Emeline's death, George remarried to Augusta Koehn (daughter of William Koehn) on April 17, 1890 in Cook County, Illinois.
In his early years, George worked as a farmer near Vernon, Lake County, Illinois. After moving to Chicago he became a landlord from which he received his living income. Note: Transcription of death record gives birthdate as 26 August 1831.
