About George Legge

GEDCOM Note

George Legge (1862-1925) was born to Alexander and Christina (Fraser) Legge in Wisconsin. He had four siblings, Christina L. (1853-1928; married Isaac Sharman), Elizabeth (1857-1857), Alexander (1866-1933), James (1869-1902). He lived in Wisconsin until 1876, when he and his family moved to Colfax County, Nebraska. George was a frail child who had bouts of pneumonia every winter for the first seven years of his life. He battled lung trouble most of his life. George attended school at Dist 18, then attended high school in Schuyler. Nettie Blanche Vincent (1868-1947) was born to John N. and Elizabeth Ann (Johns) Vincent in Wisconsin. She had four siblings, Grace (1872-?), William J. (1873-1962), Louisa (1878-died young), Emily (1880-?). In 1871 she and her family moved to Nebraska, where her father farmed and raised cattle and hogs. George and Nettie knew each other since they were children, her familyXs farm was to the north of his family farm, and they were neighbors. George went to the University of Wisconsin and obtained a law degree. He came back and married Nettie in 1888 in Nebraska. They had three children, Mildred Louise (1892-1954; married ? Gossett), Roy Alexander (1895-1985), Helen Elizabeth (1899-1957; married George Donald Creelman). George suffered a severe breakdown in 1904. Sometime later, he and his family moved to El Cajon, San Diego, California where he and his brother Alex bought an orange ranch. The 1910 census shows his occupation as fruit farmer. The warm climate improved GeorgeXs persistent lung problems. In 1920 the census shows George engaged in the real estate business in San Diego. He worked in this business until his death in 1925. Nettie eventually moved to Los Angeles, California, where she lived until her death in 1947.
