George W. Leviner
The Leviner family descends from Jean Lovina, a Norfolk County slave, whose master, Major John Nichols, freed her children, John and Sarah, and left them 350 acres of land in Norfolk County, Virginia in 1697. Sarah married William Bass and they were the ancestors of the Bass family of Norfolk County. John's descendants sold their land to the Bass family in 1728 and bought land in Bertie County, North Carolina in 1745. The Leviners were landowners in Richmond County, North Carolina by 1790
