About George Budd Lyon

Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - February 20, 1994. George Budd Lyon, born October 28, 1897 in Hyde Park, Utah, died February 17, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Sarah Alice Woolf and George Lyon. Married Annie Ellen Cleverly, August 20, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died July 19, 1969. George married Loraine Moffat on April 10, 1970, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Currently a High Priest. He served in the Central States Mission and in 1964 the Southwest British Mission. He worked diligently on genealogy, collecting and cataloging thousands of names. He had a great sense of humor and honored his heritage. He was a retired Major in the U.S.Army serving in both World War I and World War II. His last service was in South Korea. He loved the United States and felt strongly about his country. He was deeply involved in education, graduating from the University of Utah with degrees in business administration and teaching. He taught school in Metropolis, Nevada for 25 years and an additional 10 years with North Davis Jr. High and Bountiful High. He was proud of the fact that he missed only one day in his teaching career.

Survived by wife, Loraine, Salt Lake City; son, Maurice C. Lyon (Darlene), Escondido, Calif.; two daughters, Margie E. Vierig (Max), and Connie A. Kener (Gerald), both Salt Lake City; step-sons, Ray, Jay, and Roy Moffat and Keith Christoffersen; stepdaughter, Vay Robinson; brother, Devoe (Jane) of Arizona; two sisters, Orpha Drown and Florence Canonic, both of Reno, Nevada; 17 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Ann and seven sisters. Funeral services Tuesday, February 22nd, 12 noon, Larkin Chapel, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Monday evening 6:30 -8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, one hour prior to services. Interment: Bountiful City Cemetery. We love you, O X.
