About George Medaric
ACCIDENT NO. 31 - April 22, 1910 – George Medaric, Hecla Branch, C. & H. Mine. This accident, causing the death of George Medaric, an Austrian trammer, occurred at the 62nd level, No. 6 Shaft, Hecla.
At the inquest held over his body the following testimony was taken:
Mark Kosach: “I work at No. 6 Shaft, 62nd level, Hecla. I was present at the time of the accident to George. He had a bar, pinching down foot ground and the top came down. We had filled one car and started to fill another and George was taking the ground from under with the bar and the rock came down from over. One end laid on top of the car and George got hurt by it - kind of squeezed. I thought everything there was safe.”
Above testimony corroborated by Mike Petrovitch, another workman in the gang.
Verdict: "We, the jury, find that George Medaric came to his death by a fall of rock while filling a car at the 62nd level, No. 6 Shaft, Hecla Branch of Calumet and Hecla Mine, on the 22nd day of April, 1910 ."
