George Miller (Raum)

He was born "George Raum," the son of George & Dora Dare (Luber) Raum and apparently later became the stepson of Teresa Raum. In 1860, he was a laborer living with his family (as "Raum") in East Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 8" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Marietta, Lancaster County, August 8, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 12 as a private with Co. H, 135th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 25, 1863. He is in the company register as "Rome." He also enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster August 24, 1864, as a private with Co. K, 203rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 22, 1865. He is in the company register as "Raum," but his pension indexes cross-references to "George Miller," meaning that he did not change his name until sometime after the war.

He married Annie Bossler in 1866 and fathered Elizabeth (b. 1867, d. 1875), Catherine "Katie" (b. 09/27/70 - married Lewis H. Beattie), Anna Stella (b. 06/20/73 - married a Metzger), George (b. 08/28/75), Dora Elizabeth (b. @1878), Mary (b. 1880, d. 1882), Margaret (b. 1882, d. 1886), and Henry (b. 1886, d. 1896). He died in Columbia Hospital following surgery to relieve a "strangulated hernia."
