MEMORIAL PHOTOS 5 FLOWERS 0 George Dewey Miller's parents were Anderson Z and Nettie (Coon) Miller. He was born in Virginia. His death certificate says that he was born in November 1896, but he listed his date of birth as Dec 8, 1898 on his draft registration card, and his obituary said Dec 8, 1897.

[Note: George Dewey was a common name for boys born during that time, probably because of the famous Admiral of the Navy by that name. There were at least three other George Dewey Millers born in Virginia: one in Sept 1989 whose parents were Andrew J and Nettie B Miller; one in Aug 1899, and another in Aug 1900.]

In 1918, Dewey, as he was called, was working as a farmhand in Sedgwick, Harvey County, Kansas. His draft registration card said that he was tall and slender, with blue eyes and brown hair. He listed his nearest relative as A. Z. Miller, also living in Sedgwick.

He married Muriel Miller on June 10, 1920, at her parent's home in Sedgwick, Kansas. The couple then moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where three of their children were born: George Edward, Robert Anderson, and Marjorie Ellen. In 1927, Muriel and the children moved back to Muriel's family farm in Sedgwick, Kansas, where a fourth child, Maurice Gene, was born.

The 1929 St Louis City Directory shows Dewey living with his parents at 3635 Cozens Ave. He was employed as a streetcar conductor by United Railways Co. and later by People's Public Service Co. of St. Louis.

In 1932, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. In 1940, he was living at the city sanitarium. He died on November 25, 1941, at age 45 from cirrhosis of the liver. His body was cremated.

According to his obituary, Dewey had a sister, Mrs. H. E. Hall of New Orleans. Recent DNA tests confirm the link between Dewey's descendants and those of Helen and Herbert Hall.
