About George Fairbairn Murray

BIRTH: George was born at 5 Tarbet Street on the 22/10/1881 [ Scottish GRO ref: 644/5-1146].

MARRIAGE: George married Ann Ure on the 15th of October 1909 at 85 Castle Street, Glasgow; where George was also living at the time. He is noted as working as a compositor [Scottish GRO ref: 644/08 0269].

BIOGRAPHY: During the first world war George sent back to his wife and children postcards of lace and embroidery containing a small message for the family. (currently held by William Leask born 1946). A history of the 2nd Battalion The Cameronians Scottish Rifles during World War One can be found here http://www.cameronians.org/regiment/regiments_story_greatwar.html.

DEATH: Died at Ypres fighting for the allies during World War 1. Private of the 2nd Battalion, The Cameronians - Scottish Rifles. Service number was 25707. At his death the family home was 85 Castle Street, Glasgow. However the forces returns at the GRO say he died in France.
